this is also a really good point

so many ways now to check on staff performance, even if you pay minimum wage. It's very unfair in a lot of respects (you should employ/pay people with the necessary skills), but most big companies will check up on their employees somehow.

Some people are just nice though, the s**tty jobs I've had were made tolerable by decent colleagues and the occasional friendly customer.
