People who say "how are you today" when they're entering your purchases into the till

Am I the only middle aged grumpy bastard who finds this mildly annoying? They don't actually care how I am, they don't really want to know, and I certainly don't want to tell them. They're only doing it because they've been trained to do it, presumably because some management wonk thinks it will improve my customer experience (it doesn't). It's all so meaningless.
