but was that because we weren't trying that hard to win or because we just played poorly on the day? Watford played very poorly yesterday, but surely that doesn't mean they weren't bothered about getting promoted or didn't take it seriously.
All teams generally play poorly every now and then however hard you try not to (at least once every few weeks for most teams). In the cup there aren't any second chances - if that bad game happens to be in the cup and you get knocked out that's it. Wigan just got lucky in the FA Cup because none of their bad games happened in it (they happened in the League instead, hence their getting relegated)
