All depends actually

Obviously if it's "date rape" in the sense of a guy you've just met slipping roofies in your Bacardi Breezer and then raping you, that's very serious

But there are greyer areas as you would see if you spent an afternoon reading the Criminal Appeals reports. Eg girl and boy get very drunk, smoke weed as well, everybody is very hazy, he pressures her, no clear consent but certainly no clear "no", she wakes up and regrets it (possibly because she has a steady boyfriend). That's a more marginal case and most judges would sentence it accordingly.

"Rape is rape" is just a slogan, human life is infinitely more variable
