I agree with this

However, the FA Cup exists as a 'romantic' competition alongside the league, which by the nature of it's format is more likely to demonstrate which is the best team. No-one suggests that the FA Cup shows us which is the best team in the country.
In the case of European club, and international, football however there is no room for two competitions, only one. Given that, shouldn't the purpose of that one competition be to find the 'best' team in that format something a cup format (more susceptible to shocks) is not well designed to do. Given in these cases a full league is impractical in terms of the number fixtures required surely the current league/cup composite format employed by the CL/WC is - whatever its flaws - the best available solution?
