Self-belief and looking ahead to the next game with confidence is everything. But even then, there's still a line - between "I can overcome this adversity and prove myself" on the one hand, and "I'm totally out of my depth" on the other. Above all, you need TALENT to achieve things - as a manager, Gunn had zero.

As for Megson and Deehan: actually, I think it was the other way round. Megson took over the Titanic, and never had any chance given the atmosphere around the club. Comically, he was regarded as Chase's 'yes man', which is ridiculous; and he had his best players sold for very little without his knowledge. Deehan took over a very difficult job, and I sympathise up to a point with him - but also treated Culverhouse and Robins terribly. Incidentally, I was trying to remember: did he have to sell Ekoku? Or did he just not rate the big man?
