It was tried in some league in Jersey
But I think that the outcome was that the player was booked as well as the ten yard penalty, which restricts the ref as another booking means a red.
I'm just sick of seeing players concede a free kick, pick the ball, walk five yards with it, and then lob it to the ref or over the head of the oppo player who is waiting for the ball. Or concede a throw and snidily kick it five yards away.
It would be painful, initially, but make the game faster in the longer term and give some authority back to the ref.
