a far better rule (and which would save a lot more wasted time)
is if teams were always allowed to take any freekick within 10 seconds, and any defending player within 10 yards of the ball when that time has elapsed is automatically booked (10 seconds is perfectly enough time to walk 10 yards!).
Nothing wastes more time in a game than watching a defending team (who have committed an offence let's not forget and so shouldn't be entitled to any favours) being given forever to painstakingly line up a defensive wall to make it as difficult as possible for the attacking (sinned against) team.
Goalkeepers should be forced to be ready to save a potential shot pretty much from the moment a freekick is awarded rather than being allowed to hang about for ages next to a post waving fingers at defenders forming a wall.
