I thought Roeder was doing that effectively, but like many say (I accepted him), shot himself in the foot

There's is always the aspect about Roeder, that many just didn't want to like him though. It's normally portrayed that he just did it all himself. He did to an extent, but even in the time he was "accepted", the lingering feeling was that many would pounce on something he did wrong at any opportunity

That basically happened when he let huckerby go
