Making things quick. The laptop I'm on now has 4GB ram.

It's running web server software, database server software, a development environment, web browsers, outlook, word, excel, and a media player all at the same time, and you'd harldy notice it's running anything at all it's so quick.

That's why one might want 4GB of RAM.
