... My plan is to live in Paris if I get funding for my PhD - I'd stay in Brighton for the first year, spend the second (and maybe third) year(s) in Paris and commute back. I'd only need a part-time job at most - the AHRB give you enough to live on ...

Just wondered about things like bank accounts and other admin really - a friend told me today that it's nigh-on impossible to rent a house without a French bank account, and to get an account without a house.

Do you know any books that might explain things a bit? I've got about a year and a half to sort it out (if it happens at all) so the sooner I start looking into it, the better, really ...
