it's a f**king pain

we did it on a shoe string budget - we stuck a load of stuff in storage and then just drove with the 'essentials'' onto a ferry. Then each time we went back to the uk (and when friends came to visit), we'd bring over a bit more. No idea how much it would have cost to do the full removal van thing (like tomby did), but i'm sure it would have been easier.

Finding a flat was hard (and we're in the provinces), and all the administration that goes with it probably took the best part of a year to sort out (residence permit, taxes, bank accounts etc....). And of course finding a job in france is pretty tough (i had one lined up before i left the uk, but that's not a very easy thing to do).

Paris is probably a totally different kettle of fish though. You can't expect a large pad (although it would probably be bigger than a similarly priced flat in london) and the working day can be pretty long (finishing work at about 7.00 and then travelling out of the centre can use up a lot of your non working/sleeping life.) My friends who live in paris like it though.
