Don't keep bad food in the house, keep loads of fruit and good stuff in.
As for the gym...can't help with the weights (although I would say go for a weight you can just about lift and do 3 sets of 8 or as many reps as you can do until it starts to hurt, then do two more) very much.
What I would say is that if you find running on a machine, or the gym in general, boring, then take up some different sports to keep yourself interested.
