But now I've heard Rt. Hon. Mr Brown say that this is part of Britain's efforts to compete in the 'global skills race', it's all the more laughable.

Don't get me wrong - McDonald's staff probably provide a greater service to the nation than I currently do, but why exactly should they need a qualification?
