it's a no-win situation for the board really

I agree that mistakes were made, BUT they were made by the manager - he chose who to buy, sell, loan, loan, loan etc...

If the board had stepped in and vetoed any signings or sales, then the fans would be up in arms against them - a la the Martin O'Neill / Dean Windass / Robert Chase saga.

The board have to either back the manager or sack the manager. In our case they obviously backed the manager and gave him the funds to buy the players he wanted - and it worked for a while, we had playoffs and the championship after all. I guess that they just thought that if they kept backing him then he would put it right. Eventually they came to the realisation that he wouldn't be able to and sacked him.

But they were right not to meddle in the selection of players - that's what they employ the manager for. You can't have a situation whereby the board keep a manager on but don't let him make decisions.

Also, they can't very well come and criticise Worthington's judgement now; it's not very professional and it would serve absolutely no purpose. The fans have to accept the past and move on, and trust that Grant's judgement will be good and we will move forward again.

We should be grateful that we now have a board that give the manager funds to strengthen the team, rather than selling our best players and banking the cash and not letting it out again (or even siphoning it off into their own private businesses).

Look at what happened at Luton - Mike Newell got in players for next to nothing, then the board went over his head and sold them off for huge profit, then blamed the manager and sacked him. They thoroughly deserved to be relegated purely for that. It has echoes of our own relegation from the Premiership first time round.
