that if his two strikers weren't both fit he was going to play 4-5-1 the number of strikers were adequate. Any other strikers were clearly only going to be used as late impact players so he wanted something a bit different (in this case pace)and thought the experience he gained would benefit England in future (pace being something the team is severely deficient in).
I can see why he picked Walcott (funny how everyone complained at him being too predictable and conservative and then when he makes a brave gamble everyone moans at that too) and no-one could seriously claim that the decision to take him had any impact on whether or not we won the competition.
