I was talking about who did the more interesting thing with an idea - who did what when didn't come into it.

I like The Clash's punk/reggae fusion a lot (as I said above, White Man in Hammersmith Palais is one of my fave tunes by anyone) but I find The Pop Group's collaboration with Dennis Bovell far more invigorating - 'Beyond Good and Evil' and the 'Y' album are incredible.

The Pop Group were more influenced by Beefheart and Lee Perry IMO, as far Gang of Four - to some extent, although the Pistols are clearly far more important to them.

You probably needed to see The Clash live (which I didn't - seeing Strummer wasn't the same, obviously). And they did write some cracking tunes. And I like them a lot and respect their work. But they weren't as daring, lyrically or musically, as the other bands I named. Who I prefer.

And which obviously makes me IED in disguise. But only if you are jimbo under a false moniker.
