Sid was an old school mate of Lydon's (also called John). Lydon hated Spungen and McClaren. There was an interview with him on some TV documentary and he seemed genuinely cut up about Sid - regretted that he didn't care enough at the time.

Good book about punk is Jon Savage's although I don't recall the title off the top of my head. There's also one by Steven ("Seething") Wells that I haven't read, but must
