...I can see why he got sent off for the stamp, if the ref. thought it was intentional he was always going to go. Maybe the ref. was too close to the incident which made it look more so?

What I meant was he didn't just brandish the red straight away as he thought it might inflame the situation so was waiting for the situation to calm down before making any actions.
