Another difference here is that American Sports teams are
generally spread far apart. NFL has 32 teams and MLB 30, over a very large geographical area ranging from California to Washington (state) and New England (or even Canada in baseball's case) to Miami.
There really aren't many examples I can think of where you can just go and support another team unless you want to (and can afford to) fly to all the home (and most away) games.
The only alternative they have usually is going to university (college) games instead of the professional leagues but then those who can afford it can also do both as they play on different days.
