I was working in London for one of the Companies whose NY Office was in the Towers...

But at the time I didn't know that they were based there.

I planned to spend that afternoon in their Romford back office so I wasn't disturbed as i had a project to complete. While I was at Liverpool Street my wife called me to say a "small plane had hit the World Trade Centre in New York so be careful"

By the time I got to Romford both towers had been hit and I learned that our company occupied the upper floors of the second tower and the office was buzzing with thoughts about it - including the crassest comment I have ever heard "At least they won't be bothering us with accounts queries today!"

A lot of the NY staff had left the building before the plane hit having ignored the instructions to stay in place so the death toll was less severe than it could have been.

Many died including a couple that I knew very well - Gavin McMahon a Wearside Sunderland Fan and a "typical Fat Loud New York Jew" (his words not mine) Frank Pershep. - Both of their bodies were found which in all likelyhood meant that they fell/jumped.

RIP Frank and Gav and all the others.
