right up there in one of my top crazy days

me and my oppo had spent the day dicking around in the omani desert. we bowled back up at 4 bde hq and were checked in by the guard who said "go on in sir, everyone is at the birtable watching the s**t going on in america" for context the birdtable is the map based planning room of a military hq. we went in bemused and everyone was locked into the events unfolding on a tv.

one officer said that his father worked in one of the twin towers and went off to very britishly join a queue to get a go on a welfare sat phone to try and find out some news about his dad. about two hours later he came back to our tent to say his dad was ok.

a few weeks later on we had a big old beano in the desert at the end of the exercise, big old bbq and a few (an absolute s**tload of) beers where we watched that freekick goal by becks v greece on the jumbotron and then were "entertained" by bobby davro, steps and ginger spice which ended up in a massive punchup thet needed casualty extraction by ambulances and helicopters.

on reflection 9/11 aside, it ended up to be one of my top ten nights out. mental.
