Hoddle

cocked up in 98 by playing passenger Sheringham against Romania instead of Owen. Result: we came 2nd in the group & ended up playing Argies in first knockout game. And he let Batty take a pen in the shootout (I don't care how much he wanted to take one, he - like Sutch - was just to thick to be nervous. As manager you have to put your foot down sometimes). We were generally crap (and dull) under Hoddle. We didn't even win the qualifying group because we were good (we only got one point from the 2 games against Italy), we won it because Italy screwed up elsewhere. Hoddle was a bit crap really.
