Labour stopped representing the working class, whatever that means, quite some time ago.

There's a lot of the thinking that also plagues the Dems in the US, who assumed that people who are not white would naturally vote for Kamala, herself not white, over Trump, a pound-shop racist. That's not how it worked out, and taking cohorts of voters for granted never really ends well for parties doing it. Lazy-assumption-led thinking is still quite endemic in progressive parties in particular.
