Yes. 3 years

I had back pain from piriformis so bad that my GP was going to refer me to a specialist to consider surgery. Crippling pain. I couldn't stand for more than a few minutes. I was not a happy bunny.

A friend recommended I visit their physio for an opinion. The physio recommended rehabilitation pilates. This is pilates for people recovering from injuries / surgery. I signed up for a six week course. I felt like an absolute t**t in those classes. Anyway, after 6 weeks my back was maybe 25% better. After another 6 week course maybe 40% better. After a year of pilates maybe 70% better. After 3 years of pilates my back wasn't really an issue any more.

There are some basic stretches you can do that might be helpful in the short term - let me know if you want info. In the longer term, pilates is IMHO the way to go.
