We got relegated with players like Emi and Ben Godfrey.

Yet they are deemed a success in terms of buying them or producing them. (even if they got relegated badly)

Part of being a successful self-sustaining club is success on the pitch.
We need to sell regardless of success on the pitch.

Also the complication is the link between the player we bring through and the players we buy.
If we had to buy more first team minutes we may not be able to afford as many players or at least not afford the quality. We wouldn't be able to buy an Emi for 3-5M when our top price would be maybe 2M.
