OK, let me try to be brief

I work in a factory, and I love it. It's my first factory job, and I've been there apx 2.5 yrs. Up til 1998 I'd always worked in offices, but then circumstances conspired in a biggish way, and a couple of wheels came off my wagon: one my fault, one not.

In 2000 I was laid low by illness - I was pretty much a wheelchair case for 6 months and was told I'd probably never walk properly again, certainly not without a stick, and there was talk about arranging home help and s**t like that. Cut a long story short, I completely beat the disease (so far, anyway) and tried to return to the workforce in 2002 - but nobody'd touch me because of the lengthy illness.

So I turned to temping, and officed for about a year, just trying to prove I'm now fit - but I found I still hated 'the office'. So when this factory job came up, I jumped at it - nobody's fitness can be doubted when they've lugged lead about for a couple of years.

But I think 2 years provides better proof of fitness than, say, three - and I'm getting itchy feet, because although I've never been as happy at work, I'm aware that I'm possibly wasting myself doing what is in truth a bit cushy, if physically demanding. And of course it doesn't offer me much in the way of Personal Development, so I've decided it's time to move on.

When guys you used to work with still 'phone to ask your opinion on things, and you're a factory bod and they're blokes with company BMWs, you tend to look at your CV and wonder what's happened. When I did, I kind of realised that I'd sort of given everything up for free, if you follow. So it's time to do sommat about it - and I'm wondering if NVQs qualify for 'doing sommat', or if they'll just prove yet another eventual waste of time.

Still, I think I'm going to agree to the two courses: that won't stop me moving on if something interesting comes up.
