I don't think it will cost the FA themselves because what happens is a matter

for the premier league.

But what you (allegedly - may not have been accurately reported) have at the moment is the FA supposedly telling the premier league that any solution they come up with (if the season is curtailed - if its played this is all irrelevant) must involve relegation to ensure its decided by sporting merit.

If they can be forced to re-think/back track on that (maybe by someone pointing out to them they are being inconsistent and massive hypocrites) then it re-opens the possibility of solutions not involving relegation returning to the table for discussion by the member clubs of the premier league. Whether you can ever get 14 clubs to agree one is a different matter!
