Frustration

I get there’s a lot of resentment from the so called ‘left behind’, but think there’s also a lot of frustration that some people seem to pick the wrong scapegoat for their troubles .... although it’s not without historical precedent.

I know lots of Remain voters in Mansfield (of all places!) who had been hit badly by austerity and the elimination of the coal mining industry, but they didn’t blame the EU and/immigrants or see leaving the EU as a magic solution. They saw that the Leave campaign was funded and led by the really wealthy elites and newspaper owners who were also the ones pedalling austerity and all the cuts it entailed - and who were certainly no friends of the miners. It was a classic dead cat strategy to divert attention from their own capability in screwing us over.
