I don't think that there is any evidence to say he's better in that position

I think the best you can say is its 50/50 in which case over 2 games you would expect each of them to get a run out.

I have serious doubts as ti whether Madders will get a chance under Southgate. By the time the next internationals come around you will no doubt have Ali back, probably Lingaard as well and then after that Loftus Cheek and Hudson Odoi. Southgate will want to select all of them ahead of him.

Of course I have a bias towards Maddison as he used to play for us but its because of that we know what he can do as a passionate England fan I want to see Southgate get this midfield right ahead of the tournament. I don't think he will do.

I may be wrong on this but (other than perhaps sub keepers drafted in to make up the numbers) I can't think of any other players Southgate has called up in the last 2/3 years who have not been given a single minute on the pitch? I would be interested to know if there are any.
