When you say "(we) should not baulk at paying £10m plus for the right player" you are entirely correct.
Sadly, after one season of success-on-a-shoestring the prevailing view is that we should not pay big money for a player because of our experience with Naismith / Wolf.
NB I'll bet that we have already spent £5m of our 19/20 player budget
