A while back. Before 80s / 90s?
The site on Riverside was derelict / unused as long as I can remember. The closure (or amalgamation) of these types of industry in regional centres is a direct result of government policies - Germany, in contrast, kept a lot of its manufacturing in towns, with the result that there are still a lot of large companies (often family owned, still) based around the country. Far from perfect in many ways but it shows that you can still have these things in the EU - it’s a domestic thing, as CWC says.
