I've got a Oneplus, we also have Huawei, Moto G and Honor's in the family.

For convenience I'd tend to stick with whatever ecosystem you're already in, but if you're starting from scratch a mid-range android (£180-450) is very hard to beat on bang for your buck.

If you want to show off your phone or have a very specific need then getting a flagship might be a plan, though I couldn't justify spending over 800 quid on a phone.

Am very into my photography, but for the price difference you'd be able to pick up a really good mirrorless camera (more bulk, sure, but much,much better photos and DSLR quality in a coat pocketable package). The cameras on the mid-range phones are also decent these days too...
