Herein lies a very deep irony

When I first popped up on here 12 years or so ago, no-one ever called me 'nasty'. What they did call me was 'boring'. Not just too many words - but too many dense posts altogether. I had tons of people, on here and elsewhere, saying "Shaun, you make good points - but your writing needs more balls".

So I sharpened it - still wrote tons, but less, well, woolly stuff. And now look! There's a balance somewhere in between which I need to find.

I read Jim's response to you too. And found myself thinking "if I wrote that, the response would be... 'too many words'".

It's perfectly normal that people have differing criticisms. 2 days ago, separate posters complained that I "lacked passion" and "cared too much"... with regard to which, what can I do? On camcan though, three things:

1. No-one anywhere thinks camcan is 'nasty' or anything like it

2. No-one anywhere thinks the sun shines out of my arse or anything like it, nor should they (and contrary to popular belief, I certainly don't think it either. It's awfully close to the exact opposite)

3. Camcan referred to my post as 'nasty' and me as 'nasty'. A few people took exception to that because they thought that was unfair. That's all.

Yes, I do generalise at times. But here's the thing. That post which got me lambasted for "sneering at/dismissing 10,000 fans"? I added a very similar Jim-style rider right before it, in which I said I didn't want to criticise those fans, didn't want it to come over like I was criticising them, that those fans sustain the club, and they've put way more money into it than I ever have.

And that was ignored by almost everyone in favour of a very simplistic "who does TBF think he is?" narrative instead. Sign of the times. If people hate wordiness, it's awfully rich for the same people to complain about lack of nuance too. If people hate over-complicated posts, it's awfully rich for them to complain about directness too. Etc etc etc.
