we had a spate of thefts from our barracks back in the day

old german barrack blocks with large windows that had a smaller window atop which opened outwards and you could take off the little arm and let it drop all the way down which is what the thieves were doing to get in and nick stuff. Cpl Geoff Smith (I have changed his name from Martin Hardwick so as to protect his identity) decided the thieves needed deterring so he installed a DIY security device namely blutacking old fashioned razor blades snapped in half in the window. That night LCpl Llewellyn come back from the lash and having forgot his keys he decided not to wake us up and climb in through the window 😬 😱
