Like everything, there are good effects and bad effects and yes I agree

that we all have a choice as to whether to use social media but that wasn't really my point, it was more about the effect it (and the need for 24 hour sensationalist news) has had on our society.

Sometimes social media will be a force for good and it of course enables movements of all sorts to be coordinated in a way that wasn't possible before and for awareness to be raised of causes and issues across the globe.

You can of course argue that people being aware of and commenting on everything and anything is a good thing (plus of course the main benefit being that we can watch every Norwich match on facebook wherever in the world we are) but i'm not convinced that overall it has had a beneficial impact on our society or indeed the "mindfulness" of many of the population.
