Genuinely think

the moaners on here really care. So do the so-called ‘happy clappers’. So do the owners and probably most of the Board.

The problem is that the modern game is very complicated and there’s no magic formula. Sometimes outside investment works. Sometimes it’s disastrous. After totally messing up the last tilt at the Prem and the subsequent season, and without such investment, the owners/Board took a punt on a new style of regime. It’s early days but it looks as though it’s going to be pretty unsuccessful.

I’m not convinced by Webber (talks a very, very, very good game) and definitely not by Farke (seems a good guy but totally unproven) and I’m annoyed by the Board’s latest appeal for the fans to bail out the club when it should have invested in the Academy when times were good and is now trying to cover up for its negligence. However, that’s not Webber’s fault - he’s just trying to make up the shortfall, I suppose. You can call it an investment opportunity if you like but it’s an appeal to the fans to help rectify a massive error. It’s a pity that, despite Webber saying ‘mistakes were made’ not one member of the Board has admitted culpability. Pretty spineless.

Conclusion: the club is a mess. Off the field and on it. Treading water. Not going to be any better next season. Maddison will be gone and the signs are that any recruitment will be from the bargain basement. We might get lucky in that respect but is Farke a man to turn sows’ ears into silk purses?
The one problem I have with Webber’s repeated claims that ‘it’s going to take a few windows to sort out’ is that it assumes that there will be good recruitment . Franke, Stiepermann, Husband, Srbeny and Watkins suggest that might not be a given.

Therefore (in my opinion, of course) we all care desperately but the fact is the current owners, despite their passion, have presided over a period of pretty disastrous demise. Their latest throw of the dice looks pretty hopeless and they must be wondering what to do next, other than pass the buck to their nephew.
