See my suggestions below, but in the light of this development think you might need to see a Solicitor for advice. Threat of the small claims court might be sufficient. Also get your phone company to confirm that you contacted such and such a number today at this time and the call was received at the other end. Don't think the 5% discount makes an iota of difference, nor early retirement. If he can afford to retire early he can certainly afford to pay you! The basic issue is can you show that you had an order to do the work - and preferably at what rate - then that you did the work to a satisfactory level and have not been paid.
