no it's not unreasonable

unless they were sold as seconds/used then it's mis selling and a breach of all sorts of trading standards gubbins.

Two options:

(1) give them a call, explain the situation, and offer to keep them for X% discount or that you will be returning them at their cost.

(2) send them an email to cancel the order under the distance selling regulations and ask them to collect the boots at their cost. they won't of course. DSRs entitle you to a full refund which must be within 30 days and you can put a credit card claim in if they don't and get your money back that way. obviously this option does carry the risk that they might pay the postage to require you to send the boots back, but I highly doubt they will (and worse case scenario is you just pay for the boots you wanted anyway).

Option 2 is borderline unethical though (and i wouldn't suggest it if they hadn't tried to pull a fast one themselves with the used goods)
