I'll give my two bob's worth on the subject

Tombs is right because it is a recruitment and retention issue. Chelts is also correct but it most not come at the price of lowering standards. The Oggies have allowed women for many years, whether or not standards where lowered for them I don't know.

I did 7 years with the RAF Reg and although us Guins didn't need to be upto the fitness levels of a Rock, we had to make an effort, if only just to get some sort of empathy with them. Anyway, I digress so back to the point.

The MoD are quite good at a bit of PR when it comes to something like this but I'm not so sure how many will come up to standard. Good luck to those that do. The Army are supposed to be following suit next year but I think they will be watching carefully.
