Thing is......(and this is most likely the 'thing' you'll disagree with!)....

Is that 'some' of the 'tests' i was put through at basic training was toned down a few years later....ie the stretcher run (10 man canvas tent on a stretcher, squad of 8 to get it round a 5 mile cross country course) - we had to do about half of it in full NBC gear, masks on.....

Only about 30 out of orig 75 passed out - i was second youngest.....

Not sure how many RAF TCOs, Eng Techs, RADAR Techs, Cooks, Admins, Suppliers etc etc etc who passed went on to use 'that skill!' - any many would be RAF peeps dropped out because of it.... few years later heard they first canned the mask, then NBC side of it, then heard they shortened the course etc etc etc.... pretty sure they binned it altogether.....

Times change, needs change, required skill sets change.....

Sounds like some wrathers could do with a good 'change management' course......
