Bassist here......
I paid big bucks and got a Status S3 custom built from the amazing guys at Colchester. Graphite fingerboard, zero dead spots and sweet but if I was to go back again I wouldn't hesitate to get a Fender American Precision bass. Does everything and more besides and just about every famous bassist uses/used one at some point.
