Both will end up in roughly the same place but take very different paths to get there. Some characters are missing entirely, sometimes two or three characters are elided into just one, sometimes one character's plot is given to another (not particularly spoily to say that Sansa doesn't marry Ramsay in the books, that's someone else called Jeyne Poole). There's a whole raft of complexity in the books which is not in the show.

Re Sam if that's right then Jorah survives, or Sam having met him is important somewhere somehow in the future, I guess? I thought the lingering goodbye was a sure sign he was for the chop - though having Dany conflicted about Jorah and Jon is possible I guess.
