Is it insensitive? It's probably a long planned event and if the alternative is them not going at all, then I'd imagine the school are just taking the view that trips have to continue one way or another.

(Being me, I would though make a pointed comment to the teachers that they ought to cross on the right hand walkway but am sure that's SOP anyway)
