Ok so...
Stay (with car): the Northey, Box. Great gastropub with nice rooms. Bus or car into Bath.
Stay (without car): AirBnN should get you some posho's pad for a weekend that they are not using it for. Otherwise plenty if chain hotels - travelodge is central and easy access for driving.
Eat: too many chains to mention, but there are good options for Italian (Martini, Nonnas), Indian (Bengal Brasserie, Eastern Eye), Jamaican (behind waitrose), steak (Hudson Steakhouse), and tapas (la perla)
Drink: Canary Bar (gin house), most pubs are fine and sell decent beer.
Do: roman baths (in summer they open late which avoids the crowds), thermae bath, picnic on the Royal Crescent. Wander around. Take the trip to the top of the cathedral if it's a nice/clear day. Skyline Walk if you want to venture into the countryside. Take a boat trip to Bathampton Mill pub (does a great Sunday roast) or walk along the canal to the George Pub (chain pub but it's a pleasant walk)
Avoid: (i) Jane Austin museum. Just avoid it. (ii) Hen parties. But you'll have a hard time avoiding them...
