Couldn't agree less on the emphasis on practice.
Horses for courses, but if there's one speech in your life you're given your audience's most heartfelt latitude and understanding, it's the one where you put your old man in the ground. Don't practice it too much, let it come naturally, and don't beat yourself up over mistakes.
