I think different rules apply for sportives though...
...which as you say, regularly use round numbers for their varying route sizes. I think it's because it's more about the social gathering and as a sportive, they're not races, they're rides, so the course length isn't an officially measured uniform distance. Only track cycling really deals in set specific distances.
