Fatherland is worth a read. Haven't read the others (other than plot against america). Do
not forget that they are all set in context of the 30s and onward.
But if you want a proper read which will show you just how similar it is going right now try The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by William Shirer.
Was written in 60s by an American journalist stationed in Berlin in the 20s until 40s. Incredible insight into the tactics and political manoeuvring of Hitler. Far more focuses on the political side than the military. And the parallels are scarily similar in his rise to the dictatorship. I'm certain that's not an accident.
