I think that is one of the key problems

he doesn't have the charisma of Johnson or Farage, and UK politics has become increasingly about personalities - much like in the US. Many people want to hear a neat soundbite, or a rallying cry even if it is meaningless.

It's a sad indictment of the way the country is at the moment, that so many more people are swayed by style and charisma than they are by substance and facts.
