You might consider a refurb

I got a great spec machine for about ?350 last year, refurbed Lenovo with all the bloatware taken off. Decent new-style (for then) i5, 512Gb SSD, 8Gb RAM, decent screen (1600x900) - unbelievable spec for the money, normally that would be an ?800++ machine.

Just make sure it's a proper firm that sells lots of them and has good feedback - there's a load on Amazon and also on eBay.
